Organoids in Microgravity: A New Environment for Complex Models of Human Biology.
Tiny structures.
Huge potential.

Organoids are three-dimensional biological models that reproduce selected structural and functional characteristics of human organs.

They are already helping researchers investigate:
โ†’ disease mechanisms
โ†’ drug responses
โ†’ drug safety and toxicity
โ†’ development
โ†’ regenerative medicine

But creating increasingly complex and physiologically relevant 3D models remains challenging.
Microgravity introduces a very different physical environment.
With reduced gravity-driven sedimentation and buoyancy, altered fluid dynamics and changes in mechanical loading, cells can interact, aggregate and organize differently than they do under conventional culture conditions.
That is why organoids are becoming an increasingly interesting area of microgravity life-science research.

The goal is not to grow an โ€œorgan in space.โ€
The goal is to explore whether microgravity can help generate different or complementary biological models and, under certain conditions, potentially more complex 3D structures and to understand what those models can teach us about human biology.

For pharma and biotech, this could provide additional experimental models for investigating disease mechanisms, therapeutic responses, drug safety and toxicity.

At Yuri, this is where ScienceShells and our Science-as-a-Service approach come in: enabling researchers to turn complex biological questions into real microgravity experiments from study design and experiment development to mission integration, in-orbit operations and sample return, together with qualified scientific partners where required.

Because the scientific question should define the experiment not the complexity of getting it to space.
